2009 Hall of Fame Update

The Hall of Fame and Training Center has enjoyed a very successful year. Thanks to all!

The HOF had a good number of visitors from across the Commonwealth. Visitors from NJ, Delaware, MD and as far away as California have enjoyed the ASA of PA HOF. Also several groups scheduled Saturday visits. Most recent Hall of Famer Don Johnson and his family brought 20 visitors. A number of Hall of Famers have visited and as a result donated memorabilia. Rocky Santilli, Bob Yoder and Jim Dougherty are the most recent donors.

New displays are being built that include 16 locker style shadow boxes to display Hall of Famers uniforms and other memorabilia they have donated.

Also as a result of a donation from a family in Maryland, that included many training materials plus what was already available at the HOF/TC the third floor will become a softball library. This room will be available to teams and coaches to further advance their programs.

As we discovered grants are not awarded for air-conditioning so two commercial ceiling fans have been installed in the HOF and are working nicely.

The siding on the PA Ave side has been completed. The rear area will hopefully be done in the Spring; access to that area may not be possible. (Two close to next building)

A security system was installed in the HOF and TC with DCED grant monies. Five cameras have been installed with the capability to add four more cameras.

The HOF Spectacular Fundraiser raised $9,312.08. The HOF tournament after reaching a record 60 teams only to be rained out raised $1,200.00 on the rain out date.

The TC has been a busy hub for both JO girls softball and boys baseball. Two JO pitching clinics were offered and were very successful.

We have been in contact with Resitlite Inc who is interested in helping develop an indoor backstop that is durable and would not need to be replaced as often as typical indoor backstops.

The Degenstein Foundation has awarded the HOF grant to purchase the Shipman property and a Pro View state of the art training program.

The new TC schedule is a work in progress and fees will be changed for 2010. Dates for a variety of clinics are being planned. We hope to add hitting and coaches clinics in 2010.

The HOF has also hosted ASA of PA BOD meetings, committee meetings, umpire meetings, area meeting and Dist 4 & Dist 8 umpire clinic.

Stop and visit the HOF you will enjoy the stroll down memory lane.
